Dental Implant – Does It Cause Bad Breath?

Halitosis (commonly known as Bad breath) is not new to us. Most of us have suffered from this condition sometime or the other. Besides, it is believed that almost one out of every two individuals suffer from bad breath.

d-patient-08As a matter of fact, it is not that difficult to get rid of bad breath since it’s not a severe medical condition. So below we have listed some of the common factors which lead to bad breath.

Morning Hours: It is common for most people to suffer from bad breath in the morning. This happens because while we are asleep the flow of the saliva within the mouth reduces. This makes the mouth dry. If there are food particles left in the mouth then they emit an acrid smell.

Food: Bad breath can also be due to the intake of certain foods or drinks. For instance, consuming garlic or onions makes our breath smell bad. Besides food, drinks like coffee and alcohol too can cause bad breath.

Smoking: Bad breath is one of the adverse effects of smoking. Besides, smoking also creates havoc in your system and people who smoke always face the issue of bad breath.

Drugs: At times some medicines prescribed by your physician too may lead to bad breath. For instance, chemotherapy drugs which are used to treat patients suffering from cancer are known to lead to halitosis (bad breath). Nitrates which are used to treat angina patients too cause bad breath.

Cleanliness: It is important to regularly brush and floss your teeth so that no food particles are left inside your mouth. If plaque and tartar remains inside the mouth it leads to bad breath. Besides, if you neglect oral hygiene then the food will remain stuck inside the mouth and the bacteria will then break down these food particles, leading to the release of gases. This is the main cause of bad breath. Hence you need to follow proper oral hygiene to overcome the issue of bad breath.

Thus, we can see that there are many reasons which may lead to bad breath. Some of them are quite serious.

However, it is quite easy to overcome the issue of bad breath. All you need to do is pay proper attention to your oral hygiene. This will reduce the issue greatly. For instance, you need to brush your teeth at least two times every day with good quality toothpaste. Do not forget to floss your teeth regularly.

Your tongue too contains bacteria which may lead to bad breath; therefore you need to ensure that your tongue is clean. You can keep a separate toothbrush to clean your tongue. Nowadays many new toothbrushes include a tongue scraper which is ideal to clean the tongue. You can also purchase a good mouthwash which will further improve your oral hygiene routine. These simple measures are sure to help you to go a long way to combat the issue of bad breath.
